Science Fair
Dear Sharman,
My science fair project turned out great. I got a first place ribbon and a purple ribbon for special effort.
I am attaching the details of the project.
Thank you for your help. The children especially liked the tattoos.

Egg Lullaby Twinkle Twinkle
Lots of animals come from eggs
Some with fins
Some with legs

Some that chatter
And some that cheep
Some that fly
And some that creep

Some that Slither
And some that run
Some with feathers
And some with none

Animal eggs can be quite small
Or just as big as a tennis ball

The animals here
They’re quite a few

Hatch from eggs
And lay them too

Hickman's Home Made Egg Games
Egg-Carton Games
Give that empty egg carton a new life! Inside its lowly exterior lurks a randomizing device, a target, a racetrack, or a 3-D game.

Use the cartons that do not have large holes in their covers. Use 2 X 6. Do not remove the tops. Game instructions can be pasted inside the lids. Counters and other game pieces can be stored in the cartons.

When writing numbers in an egg carton, put them on both the bottom and the back side of the egg holes (so that the number in the hole can be read without removing objects from the egg hole). Buttons, centimeter cubes, pebbles, large beads, and other small objects are all appropriate to use as counters for egg-carton games.

Egg-0 Skill Areas: +, -, x
Object: Players take turns shaking a numbered egg carton containing two counters. The player’s score after each turn is the sum, difference, or product of the two counters.

Number of Players: two to four

Materials: one egg carton and two small counters (buttons, pebbles, beads)

Preparation: Write the numbers from 0 to 10 in the holes of an egg carton, as shown. You will need to write one of the numbers twice.

(Display open egg carton with Numbers written inside the holes)

Playing:

Egg-0 is played in rounds, with play rotating clockwise. During each round, each player takes a turn putting the two counters in the egg carton, closing it, shaking it, and then opening the carton to see where the counters landed.

In the addition game a player’s score is the sum of the two numbers that the counters landed in. During a subtraction or multiplication game, players find either the difference of product of the numbers.  The player with the highest score wins one point for the round.
Winning

The first player to acquire five points wins

Playing Variations
Instead of acquiring points at the end of each round, players keep cumulative track of their scores from the rounds. The first player to get a cumulative score of 50 or more for the addition game wins (25 for the subtraction game, 200 for the multiplication game). Players can use calculators to help them keep track of their scores.

Play ten rounds or for fifteen minutes. The winner is then the player with the highest cumulative score. Use three, four, or five counters, instead of two.

Skill Variations
Fractions or Decimals; Use fractions or decimals instead of whole numbers.
Place Value: Use Two-, three-, or four digit numbers in the egg cavities, such as 25 or 378.
