Arizona’s 2nd Annual Governor’s Easter Egg Roll was held Saturday, April 7, 2012 at the Wigwam Resort in Litchfield Park. Gov. Jan Brewer welcomed the crowd and started the race. The event echoed the White House’s healthy and active theme, and included yoga and healthy eating classes among the activities. Sponsors were Hickman’s Family Farms, the Wigwam Resort, Shamrock Farms, Hilgers Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics, and Reach Out and Read Arizona. Volunteers from The National Junior Honor Society of Millennium High School were on hand to help.

Activities included egg hunts, egg coloring and crafts, celebrity chef healthy kids cooking demonstration with Executive Chef David Snyder, a story time area, face painting, an Easter outfit competition, martial arts by Bryce and yoga fun by Yippee Yoga for Kids, kids’ synchronized swimming at the lodge pool, bunny sack races, inflatables, animal encounters from Wildlife World Zoo & Aquarium and more. The Trivium Prep Chorale Ensemble and the Archway Trivium Treble Singers performed Peter Cottontail, and there were a variety of vocal performances.

There was no admission fee but opportunities were available to donate to Phoenix Children’s Hospital, Arizona’s Children Association, American Academy of Pediatrics and Reach Out and Read. April Warnecke of 3TV reported the proceedings and Bruce Haffner brought in the Easter Bunny by helicopter.
