2010 Women in Ag Conference Scheduled for June 4

SPEAKERS ANNOUNCED FOR THE JUNE 4 LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE-

“Are you smarter than an activist?”
Presented by: Betty Wolanyk
If you are wondering where all those attacks on modern agricultural practices are coming from, this is a presentation you need to see. Are you smarter than an activist? Not if you don’t know what they are up to or how activists are working in concert. In this session, Betty Wolanyk will provide the basics of activism—who the players are, how much money they have available, what their messages are, and how effective they are at delivering those messages and manipulating the public. Well researched, this presentation will wake up agriculturists about the need to counter the activists before their claims become more mainstream than they already are.

“Consumers are from Venus – Farms are from Mars”
Presented by: Charlie Arnot
The changing structure of agriculture creates new challenges and opportunities for building support from a public long removed from farming. The change in size, scale and use of technology in food and fiber production combined with idealized notions of what farming “should be” create a gap between the public’s expectations and today’s reality. In this session, Charlie Arnot will help us understand what consumers expect from today’s farmers and more importantly how we can build public trust and support for agriculture in Arizona.
