Local Businesses Hold Peanut Butter & Jelly Drive Through July

Thousands of children in Arizona go without a simple snack that many of us take for granted – a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. It’s a treat that can do so much for a child while encouraging a healthy lifestyle. That’s why Bashas’, Food City, 12 News, The Arizona Republic, News-Talk 92.3 KTAR and Sports 620 KTAR, 98.7 The Peak, Univision Radio, La Raza Radio and Prensa Hispana have joined forces to kick off a statewide Peanut Butter & Jelly Drive this Wednesday, June 30 to benefit St. Vincent de Paul in Arizona.

“Summer is a particularly hard time for low-income families,” said Steve Zabilski, executive director of St. Vincent de Paul. “Children don’t have access to school lunch programs, and families are faced with higher electric bills. It really puts a strain on a family’s food budget.”

Arizona residents are invited to donate jars of peanut butter and jelly at Bashas’ and Food City stores throughout the state. In addition, paper peanut butter and jelly pin-ups will be on sale at the registers of Valley Bashas’ and Food City stores through July 31. Jelly pin-ups are being sold for $1 each, and peanut butter pin-ups are $5 each.

“Arizona families are struggling to put food on the table, and they need our help,” said Kristy Nied, Director of Communications for Bashas’ Family of Stores. “When it comes to supporting people in need, every dollar and every jar of peanut butter and jelly count.”

Zabilski agreed. “This drive will make a difference to so many families,” he said.
